Yao Ming’s career may be in jeopardy, this time for good. After suffering a stress fracture in his left ankle in 2010, he hasn’t played a game since and may be forced to retire sooner than he would like. Yao Ming’s tenure in the NBA has had it’s highlights with 8 All-Star selections, several playoff experiences and has been regarded as one of the best centers in NBA history.
However, his career has also been riddled with plenty of lows which include injuries and also a good amount of racism. Asian basketball players are rare in the NBA, so to have a player such as Yao Ming not only be Asian but also skilled and successful, it wasn’t something people were accustomed to. It is sad to see the possibility of Yao retiring. He has been a great role model for Asian people worldwide and we hope that Golden State Warrior point guard Jeremy Lin is just the beginning of a new wave of Asian basketball players in the NBA.
