Swizz Beatz holds a press conference in South Korea announcing his partnership with O.N. Media and his plan to bring Korea’s “K-Pop†to the United States.
“It’s a new expression and the world is open for new things. I think right now K-Pop in Korea is leading in that area, and I would love to be the one to introduce that to the West,” announces Beatz. “The biggest thing with K-Pop is how much it’s elevated to the next level. A genius like Kanye West and other geniuses that are smart enough to work with K-Pop groups understand that music is universal… I believe in leadership, I believe in setting the pace, I don’t like to wait till somebody else does it. I like to be one of the first.”
This partnership intends to produce more collaborations between American and Korean artists. Will.I.Am is one of a few top notch producers cashing in on the Korean music market. He’s currently working with the Korean girl group 2NE1 on their new album. He has mentioned plans for the group, stating he didn’t want to just make them big in America, but worldwide.
“My idea to bridge the world together with music starting in Asia and going to the West is something that is new, untapped and leading to the future of bringing the worlds together. And this partnership is the beginning in making a history,†Beatz said.
Although these are good intentions, Se7en and BoA are proof that it’s going to take a lot more strategic and promotional effort for America to accept a K-Pop star.
