A video recently surfaced and gone viral on social media showing an angry customer outraged inside of a Hunan restaurant.
This incident took place at a restaurant on December 3rd, in the Hunan province of Changsha that is well known for their signature spicy foods. The man shown in the video was dining with five other guests.
He waved over a waitress to complain that the food was too spicy after sneezing and coughing several times, saying that he was unable to enjoy his food.
“I’ve had Hunan cuisine before, however this tastes so much spicier,” the man exclaimed.
The man pointed out that there was too much leftover food due to him having little amounts and shortly asked how the restaurant would solve the issue.
This gave the impression that he did not want to be charged for the dishes that he ate from.
As a counter-offer, the waitress offered all the guests some free juice, while this may be a delightful resolution, this angered the man even more.
He began to be outraged, suggesting that the waitress assumed that he could “Not afford juice myself”. He then demanded a better resolution.
The waitress could only offer free juice to which the man had been shown throwing a glass to the ground and exiting the restaurant with his guests.
Users on both Twitter and Chinese Reddit had several things to say about the viral video.
A majority of users agreed that the man’s angry tantrum was an attempt of a “dine and dash”.
“It seems to me he just wanted to escape the bill. Most of his friends seemed to have enjoyed and finished their food, what a shame. That waitress must be terrified.” One user had pointed out.
“Why would he go to a Hunan restaurant thinking it wouldn’t be spicy. All restaurants are different.” Another user commented. “It must’ve been too authentic for him” another had replied.
Even several users stepped in to comfort the waitress, “I really feel bad for the waitress, I’m sure she was trying to do what she could to help make the situation better.”
Some users have even taken the opportunity to educate those who are unknown to Hunan foods.
Many explained that Hunan (湘菜) cuisine is known for being very spicy when authentic.
It’s known via Chinese social media that the man had actually apologized to both the restaurant and the waitress he disrespected.
Additional sources say, that he paid for his bill and compensated an additional 3 yuan ($0.50) for the broken glass.
Since then the dispute had been resolved, and no further legal action had taken place.
