On last night’s episode of the reality singing competition American Idol, Filipino-Mexican Jessica Sanchez was among the 14 contestants who made it to the Top 24! Jessica Sanchez… Hmmm. Name ring a bell? Some of you may recognize her actually. She got her start on America’s Got Talent Season 1 in 2006, when she performed her powerful rendition of Celine Dion’s “I Surrender†– leaving a judge momentarily at a loss for words before commenting. She was only 11 years old and finished as a semifinalist. Prior to that, she received her first standing ovation on television when she appeared on the legendary music program Showtime At the Apollo. Her most recent televised performance was singing the national anthem in her hometown of San Diego before the San Diego Chargers and New York Jets game that aired on ESPN’s Monday Night Football. Her YouTube Channel has amassed millions of views, where producers discovered her and launched her commercial acting career a year ago. Out beating many adult singers in numerous competitions, she has performed all over the country.
People are talking that Jessica appears to be an early favorite right now to win it all. Her powerful voice is so compelling and has such complete control. “My tone is a lot different from the others,†she said, when asked what sets her apart from the other contestants. Following Jessica stating that this was the biggest thing that has ever happened to her, Ryan Seacrest says “Your family is the biggest thing that’s happened to us†in reference to her behind the stage supporters. YES! Jessica’s family includes us here at Jackfroot and we are going to root her all the way! She’s ready to bring it!
We are still in full support of another American Idol past contestant, Filipino-American Ashley Robles. She blew us away with Whitney’s “I will always love you†and was another standout at the San Diego auditions. We are sad to see her cut during the Las Vegas rounds just recently. We wish her all the best and will continue to keep an eye out for her.
In the meantime, tune into American Idol and vote for Jessica Sanchez when she makes the final 12!
