Korean-American poet EJ Koh met with me at a coffee shop on a suburban corner. I was anxious meeting an intense intellectual for my first in-person interview. But EJ smiled at me and I instantly felt a warmth about her. Her eyes sparkled and her every word contained conviction. She made you willingly surrender all your undivided attention. Inspired, I was convinced I sat next to one of the most talented artists we have today. The movement to define herself as an artist and the unconventional way she goes about doing just that; it is an honor to introduce her…

Kollaboration started out as an idea to provide a platform for young Asian and Pacific Islander artists to showcase their talents. What began with a single show in Los Angeles to pilot the movement has now grown to annual talent shows in 14 cities in North America spanning from Honolulu to Chicago to New York. The shows are competition based and showcase the  talents of locals in each city. At Kollaboration 2003, an unknown hip-hop group called Far East Movement took the stage and won that showcase. Ten years after to date, look at where they are now! In 2006,…

If you’ve been tuning into one of the many American reality television singing competitions lately, did you catch The Voice on NBC last night?! Check out our man, Alaskan YouTube star, JR Aquino (aka JRA) battled it out last night in front of millions of viewers. But with over 50 million views already on YouTube channel, I’m sure he was ready to been seen on a much larger screen and stage! With JR’s clean and smooth R&B sound, celebrity mentor Ceelo challenges him to sing a bit more “dirtier” with a bit more aggression and attitude to make it in the competition. Let’s…
On July 15th, 2012, a humorous music video of a well dressed cheesy looking man rapping in Korean, was uploaded to YouTube. As of right now, that video has accumulated over 300 million views and is the most “liked” video in YouTube history. If you have no idea what I am talking about, you are probably the last person with internet access to have seen this. I am assuming that every publication out there has covered something about Psy, the internet sensation that is behind the “Gangnam Style” craze. Or at least broke down the actual music video and went into detail of what…
From the first time Christine Ha navigated her cane onto the national stage for Fox’s MasterChef, she stole the hearts of viewers across America. Inspired by her mother’s home cooking, and growing up to the taste and smells of a Vietnamese kitchen, Christine took on the challenge of learning how to cook for herself when she went off to college after her mother passed away. She did not stop her love for food and cooking when faced with an auto-immune disease (Neuromyelitis optica) which ultimately attacked her optic nerves, leaving her legally blind. Check out her audion here: [youtube id=”tkGTYYOCuP0″ width=”619″ height=”315″] Immediately…
I will place a sure bet that this umma (Korean for “mom”) in the video below  can battle your mom at the now – globally popular  - Gangnam Style Dance anytime. Much props to Mrs.Song ( who is 60 years old respectively), for generously passing down her mad dance skills and talents onto her son, Mike Song. I like to believe it was NOT the other way around. You be the judge. This is top notch mother-son bonding taking place here: [youtube id=”HDJXgiUe_EM” width=”619″ height=”315″] Choreography by Mike Song http://www.youtube.com/mikeosong http://www.twitter.com/mikeosong Check out Mike Song’s “Promises” dubstep cherography…
Growing up in the Bay Area, I have mad love and respect for R&B singing group Legaci. I’ve been following them as a fan since they first formed back in 1997 with their original members. Today, the group consist of Micah Tolentino and Jason Atencion, who remain in the line up; along with Chris Abadand and Del Lazaro. They began promoting themselves on YouTube a few years ago, and since have grown to building fans from all over the world. Best known for performing backup vocal for Justin Bieber on the My World Tour, these guys definitely made a name for…

Another hilarious video from Ryan Higa on The Olympics. He touches on some real life criticism one may find if they decline to join in the “Watching the Olympics” bandwagon. Enjoy: [youtube id=”0GmfIsOLJ6k” width=”619″ height=”315″] Check out more of Jackfroot’s coverage of Ryan here. What has Jeremy Lin been up to this summer since recently signing with the Houston Rockets? Well, just signing more multi-million dollar contracts and endorsements. No biggie. You know, starring in car commercials, training hard core, playing some “put-put” as he mentions (miniature golf), and oh yeah… We can’t forget to mention playing some Dance Dance Revolution – probably the only thing this guy is not so good at.  Check out the behind the scenes life of Jeremy in Episode 2 of his official Youtube channel and series documenting highlights of his “Offseason”: [youtube id=”Hc7Rdl0TeHo” width=”615″ height=”315″] Subscribe to YouTube channel TheJlin7 here.…
