Awwwwww yeahhh! Randy Jackson’s America’s Best Dance Crew (ABDC) is back for season 7!

Take a look at the list of ABDC champions below and tell me if you see what I see. Collectively, all of the season’s winners have significant Asian American representation across the board. Nearly every crew on ABDC has had at least one Asian American member on their crew! The show itself is full of Asian Americans and it’s pretty honest to believe that we’ve had the notion of  “ASIAN America’s Best Dance Crew” cross our minds here and there. I’ll admit – I’ve own that thought more than once and am not ashamed of it.

TBD (Asian American) Dance Crew… for season 7???

 

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been fascinated by the Asian entertainment movement. It was always a muse for me to hit up dance competitions and cultural showcases that welcome Asian talents – like Kollaboration. It’s definitely a reality that Asians represent the bulk of the hip-hop and street dance scene!  Some of the best b-boy crews in the world are Japanese and Korean! It’s clear that we roll deep in hip-hop culture. It’s universal effect goes beyond race, and touches the lives of us non minorities who just want a platform to express ourselves. Let’s face it – we just love to freaking dance!

 

For sometime in the past, the Asian entertainment movement got no recognition in the mainstream – until ABDC came along. This show changed up the whole scene! You’re telling me I can go to Las Vegas now and see a team of talented Asian men headline a show on the Las Vegas Strip?! Way cool. As ABDC fans and faithful viewers, we see dedicated Asian American individuals hit that stage HARD every night the show airs. Through pure blood, sweat, and tears, these dancers are pouring their hearts out to America. “You see us now”?!  They aren’t just dancing for America. They’re dancing for Asian Americans and Asians all over the world. So looking forward to seeing some raw expressions and hip-hop swag this season!
