Have you ever wondered where that iPhone or iPad you own is made or even how it’s made? Take a close look at this detailed documentary from Nightline of ABC News as they go behind the scenes of Apple’s FoxConn factory in China. This video gives you an in-depth visual of the who the employees behind these wonderful Apple products are, how much they get paid, and how their life is like in China. It really gives you an interesting view on how different things are over there and how people have it good here in America. Foxconn’s factory also produces products for other major electronics companies as well.
For those that didn’t know, Foxconn had many employees commit suicide as they jumped to their deaths back in 2010. There has even been groups of people going to the rooftops threatening Foxconn that they will jump. The questions still remain as to why these people are committing suicide, but some are suggesting because of their working conditions and lifestyle.
Most of the employees there are young teens earning around $2 dollars an hour. They live in run down dorms with about 7 other people and are doing the same repetitive motion in their assembly line jobs for about 12 hours a day. It makes you question how much of a social life they actually have. Apple, one of the biggest billion dollar companies in the world, definitely should take a stand to correct and address this big issue. If they don’t, the world may see a loss in future sales of Apple products and the loyal customers Steve Jobs worked so hard to build.
