Massages are a great way to relieve tension in your muscles, reduce stress and promote relaxation and well being in life. However, in cities throughout Vietnam, there is a new form of massages being offered for females called the Yoni massage. In short, the Yoni massage is a type of massage focused in the genital area in women.
Advertisements are surfacing throughout Vietnam offering these special massages to urban Vietnamese females. The bizarre part about it is that these services are usually done by male masseurs that use their penis for the job. Yoni is a Sanskrit word with different meanings, most basically “vagina” or “womb”. People that use this term refer to it as the “Divine Passage” or “Sacred Temple”.
It’s quite popular to hear about massage services offered towards men, also known as “happy ending massages”, but this new form of Yoni massage for females is raising eyebrows everywhere.
“You want to relax after a hard day at work? We offer Yoni massage services at home or other private locations for ladies. Please contact Mr. Hung at 0934.”
– reads an ad for Yoni massage services on an online forum.
One Yoni massage client stated, “My marriage crashed so I felt listless and found life boring. A friend recommended Yoni massage to reduce stress, so I wanted to try it. I was embarrassed for the first time but I quickly became accustomed to it. Now, I can not quit.”
Recent reports from media portals such as Xa Hoi (Society) Newspaper and Phap Luat (Laws) have investigated and found ads soliciting Yoni massages are found in major cities targeted toward local women in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
T., one of the leaders of this particular massage organization told media, “Some people call it a Yoni massage, while some call it a sensual message. All of our customers are ladies. But our job is not to elicit as many people suppose”.
T. also shared some photos of his service and stated, “Our job is to satisfy a woman’s demand. Their husbands can even see what we are doing on site”.
T. stated that most of the Yoni therapists are professional and follow 4 certain guidelines at work: professional, polite, thoughtful, and dedicated. He also disclosed an eye opening fact that most of the male masseurs will only use their penis during the last stage of the service. These massages can cost from a range of 200,000 VND to 300,000 VND (roughly $9 to $14 US dollars) per time while massage with penis costs from 300,000 VND to 500,000 VND (roughly $14 to $24 US dollars).
Nguyen Thanh H. in Hanoi’s Dong Da district, who often takes his wife to Yoni massage parlors said Yoni massage should not be condemned because sensual massage is just another kind of entertainment. “I take her there to look for some strange feelings. We are together on this decision.” – said H.
A website even lists the exact address of a parlor in downtown Ho Chi Minh City and boasts that its masseurs are all polite, tall men who always meet the needs of their customers.
In Vietnam, any kind of prostitution is illegal, and many are raising awareness and suggesting that these special massages fall in the same category. Vietnam is still considered a very conservative country where any physical contact between opposite genders who aren’t related by blood or marriage are forbidden, so many are still questioning the ethical issues these services bring.
Son Dong, an office worker in Ho Chi Minh City, claimed that men and women are equal so if men want relaxing massage, women can too. But he prefers female massage therapists for Yoni massages to male.
“I’m really shocked to hear that some men allow their wives to pick a male for Yoni massage. It makes me sick. I cannot imagine that a male rubs oil all over my beloved woman’s body and massages her body and genital area,” Dong said.
