Back in February, Gigi Hadid’s sister Bella posted a video which shows Gigi squinting her eyes to what appears to be a Buddha cookie on a table, which social media, of course, interpreted as racism– and rightfully so!

After the Victoria Secret Show was announced to take place in Shanghai this year, Gigi took to her Weibo account to issue a formal apology for her actions.


However, fans are skeptical to accept her apology based on the timing and formality of her words:

“I want you all to know that it was never my intent to offend anyone through my actions and I sincerely apologize to those who were hurt or felt let down by me. I have the utmost respect and love for the people of China and cherish the incredible memories I have made while visiting in the past.”

But why did Hadid only choose to post it on Weibo? Was it to avoid drawing more attention to the topic?
